The British government has proposed to set air quality limits that would allow twice as much small-particle pollution in England as the World Health Organisation recommends as an upper limit, and that would not be met for almost 20 years.
The level of toxic fine particles in Scotland’s air failed to go down during the Covid-19 lockdown, despite a significant drop in the number of vehicles on the roads, according to researchers at the University of Stirling.
