Venice has closed St Mark's Square as the city suffered a third major flooding in less than a week, while rain lashed the rest of Italy and warnings were issued in Florence and Pisa.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said an emergency fund of 20 million euros ($22 million) was approved. The money will help the city cover the damages done to homes and businesses.
Two people have died as the highest water levels for more than 50 years caused hundreds of millions of euros of possibly irreparable damage in Venice, with another surge expected to cause further flooding.
