A smoky haze continued to linger over the Pittsburgh region Thursday while also gripping much of the eastern seaboard and portions of the Midwest, as northerly winds pushed smoke from Canadian wildfires as far south as northern Florida.
As smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to blow over Western Pennsylvania, the state Department of Environmental Protection has raised the pollution alert to code red, the highest warning for people with health problems.
